Assumptions analysis is one of the tools and techniques for the PMI process to identify risks. Assumptions are made as a project starts and progresses. Incorrect assumptions may lead to risks. So considering what happens if the assumptions are incorrect or incomplete can help identify risks.

Assumptions analysis is described in section of the PMBOK (5th edition).
