Change requests are a formalized way to manage and control changes to items under change control. The change control process will define the levels and types of approval required for various items. With many PMI processes a potential output is a change request. The change may be necessary to make something consistent with an external change, such as a cost update. Or the change could be based on new information, for instance a better estimate of the schedule based on the results of an initial pilot or prototype. Some other sources for a change request are to improve a process, to align with other organizational changes, or a leadership decision.
