Historical data, that is, information about previous projects or activities, can be very useful in planning and estimating what to expect in a current or future project.

Two ways of incorporating staff experience into current work are using an expert who has experienced similar situations (expert judgment) and data stored in a project management office.

Parametric estimating relies on historical data condensed into a formula. Analogous estimating also uses previous experience, but on only one or a few similar situations.
