Leadership plays an important part of project management. It is so critical that it is listed as one of the three areas in the PMI Talent Triangle that require continuing education to remain certified as project management professional (PMP). In that context it includes the interpersonal skills that assist in leadership and management. In the more specific context of interpersonal skills, leadership is listed as one of the eleven key skills (PMBOK 5th edition, appendix X3). In the PMBOK, it states, "leadership involves focusing the efforts of a group of people toward a common goal and enabling them to work as a team." (p. 513).
