Performance reporting is one of the tools and techniques for project managers. PMI suggests it as part of two processes: manage communications and control procurements.

Performance reporting should be adjusted to match the level of detail needed. It starts with things like percent completed and reports for key areas such as scope, schedule, cost, and quality. Additional components may include analysis of past performance and forecasts, current status of risks and issues, past and future work of adjacent time periods, changes and key information from this period, milestones met this period and upcoming.

It is described in sections 10.2.2.5 and 12.3.2.4 of the PMBOK, 5th edition. ‎
