A requirements traceability matrix is created during the PMI process to collect requirements. The matrix is usually formatted as a table. It records the source(s) of the requirements and matches them to the deliverable(s) that fulfill the requirement. Various attributes of the requirements may be included. Some of the attributes are

  • ID
  • short description
  • associated business need or project objective
  • deliverables
  • product design or development
  • test cases
